College Planning

There are some steps you can take as a ninth and tenth grader to make sure you're on the right track for college. Read the full College Board Big Future Planning Guide.

9th Grade - Freshman Year

  • Create a four-year school plan
  • Start thinking about your life after school
  • Meet with your high school counselor
  • Participate in extracurricular activities
  • Save for college
  • Explore summer opportunities
  • Get familiar with the PSAT related assessments and SAT
  • Take the PSAT

10th Grade - Sophomore Year

  • Meet with your high school counselor -- again
  • Take the PSAT
  • If your interested in a Military Academy request a pre-candidate questionnaire.
  • Research about how to obtain financial aid
  • Attend college and career fairs
  • Participate in school activities or volunteer efforts
  • Tour college campuses

11th Grade - Junior Year
