MAVECHS Admission Policy

Early College High Schools (ECHS) are open-enrollment high schools that allow students least likely to attend college to receive both a high school diploma and an associate degree or at least 60 credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree.

MAVECHS:

  • Enrolls Historically underserved students, targeting at-risk and economically disadvantaged
  • Provides dual credit at no cost to students
  • Offers rigorous instruction and accelerated courses
  • Provides academic and social support services to help students succeed
  • Provides students with highly personalized attention
  • Increases college readiness
  • Partners with San Jacinto College (institution of higher education (IHE)) to reduce barriers to college access

All PISD 8th graders zoned to PMHS are encouraged to apply during the application period. After the application deadline, MAVECHS students are chosen through a lottery system. Students who are not selected through the lottery will be placed on a waitlist in case any of those selected cannot commit to the ECHS program. Once Summer Bridge has taken place the freshmen class of MAVECHS is set for the Fall.
